Sparky, that is a similar reason to why my girl needs shoes. She has tiny feet and a lot of weight on them. When she is in foal it will be even more and she doesnt have excellent distribution of weight on her hooves.

all my horses have been barefoot, never had a problem. I'm very lucky as Kassim has such strong feet, plus he wears them down nicely aswell. So the farrier isn't a huge expense for me.

All my horses are barefoot too! Kassim I'm on the same boat as you. I haven't called the farrier for about 2 years now. -hope you don't all start calling HHCU, hehehe!! It's unbelievable how they wear down their hooves. How on earth do wild horses call the farrier?? So with constant walking on diff terrain, wearing down their hooves and my dad learnt how to file down edges, it's not a prob for me. Natural wear and tear!

All mine have been barefoot for the last 11 years now. They are all thoroughbreds. Started going barefoot when the farrier decited not to come for 4 months (lots of excuses and promises but no farrier). The farrier trims every 5 weeks (supposedly, looks more like every 3 months). Not strasser though, that is cruel.

My instructor just went barefoot with all her horses, although the old TB still wears front shoes as he needs. I would love to go barefoot but not at the expense of my horse. I tried it once with Saintfield. He was lame for 6 weeks. I don't need to put him under that kind of stress so the shoes went straight back on. No comment on Strasser. If I start, I might get banned!

barefoot with all my horses - I do a bit of the maintence between trims and get the farrier out every 3 months ar so - I took my THB shoes off the day he came off the track . I can't take him on an outride the day the farrier has been there as he sometimes get a little tender but other than that day he is 100% fine.

My horse is also barefoot. Never had a horse with no shoes before so want to learn more about going barefoot. Farrier coming out this week and I would love to be there to chat to him but have to work.
