A Good Weekend for Jonathan Clarke
This past weekend saw the 4th legs of the JICM Riders Grand Prix Challenge and the World Cup Qualifier series at the Pretoria Show. Jonathan Clarke kept up his form from his win of the Port Elizabeth World Cup Qualifier, by winning the Pretoria JICM Riders Grand Prix, and coming second to Michael Benjamin in the World Cup Qualifier.
Natus Ferreira built testing courses, resulting in only four clears in the first round of the JICM Riders Grand Prix, and only Jonathan Clarke achieved a double clear. In the World Cup Qualifier there were no clears in the first round, so the four faulters went into a jump-off, which saw 3 very exciting clears from Grant Langley on Patrick, Jonathan Clarke on Mossandi Diadem and Michael Benjamin on Remade Allesandro.
World Equestrian Games Update
Vaulting
Our vaulters did South Africa proud with creditable performances. While South Africa did not feature in the top ranks, our vaulters held their own and beat the likes of Russia and Poland. Considering how new this sport is in South Africa, we are well pleased with their performance. Jasyn Gertenbach achieved the best score of 7,027 for South Africa.
Showjumping
Charles Luyckx has regrettably had to withdraw from competing as his horse has hurt itself. This means that we no longer have a team, which is very disappointing. We are still rooting for Roger Hessen and Barry Taylor to fly our flag high however, and wish them good rounds.
