He's a lovely stallion by For Pleasure, the sire of many International Showjumpers, he jumped A grade in Europe and only turned to dressage when he came to SA a couple of years ago (2003 I think). We are very lucky to have his bloodline in the country and I would love one of his progeny.

I called the stud yesterday. Spoke to Jaco Fourie, and he was extremely helpful. I asked him if I could quote him on this, and he said yes! The reason why For Joy is not standing to outside mares, is that they feel that they don't want to take people's money for coverings before they don't know what the horse is producing. For Joy and Granulit (got the spelling wrong earlier...) will each have about 50 foals on the ground and assess them properly before they'll decide whether to sell the semen or not. He said its no use just breeding any stallion to any mare, they want to be able to give mare-owners sound advice. The stud has more than 50 mares, 25 of which are imported from Europe. Apart from For Joy and Granulit, the stud also have 5 other imported stallions which will start competing in 2007, and another stallion in Germany being competed by Natalie Hobday. The first auction (no reserve price!!!!) is planned for November 2007, and roughly 50 horses will be put on auction. Mostly ridden youngsters, but also older produced horses and some broodmares in foal to ... tarra-tarra... For Joy and Granulit!!!!! He believes that Warmblood horses in this country is overpriced in general, and they would like to provide a quality product for a reasonable price, hence no reserve at the auctions. Can't wait!!!! The stud breeds 90% for show jumping, and 10% pure dressage, but their jumpers move very well too, and the dressage horses show a decent jump. For Joy (a jumping stallion in pedigree) is convincing in the dressage arena, and the one in Germany (didn't get his name, sorry!) is bred for dressage, but received 10 out of 10 for jumping in his stallion performance test in Germany. Am I the only excited one here???

No Beatlesfan ... I'M TOTATLLY WITH YOU!! Whooohoo!! That is awesome news!! THANK YOU for getting the info for us!! November 2007 ... Right. That gives me more than enough time to save up!! By then I will have enough money (hopefully) to seriously consider a horse. Snaps on Freewheeler, Jnp, Evie, Anine and anyone else standing in line for Out of the Blue. You CANT have both! So you can't come to the auction. Me and Beatlesfan will get there first!!

i think u must PLEASE keep us updated on the auction bf! i'd love to go thru and see the horses! i agree with what jaco said about, well, pretty much everything! i like the fact that they want to breed a quality horse for a decent price. i know a few of the studs in joburg are only concerned with breeding bigger horses. when i was trying to breed my mare to a certain stallion here who is absolutely huge, they told me i can do it but if the baby doesnt mature to over 17hh i may not use their stud name! whats the point in breeding huge horses if not everyone can ride them? i mean, look at the size of most of our top riders! their little! and a tallented enormous horse is no good to anyone if you cant ride it! by breeding bigger, in a way you can say that you are decreasing ridability

An open day is planned for next year. They will open the doors to the general public and do a stallion show, loose jumping, foal presentations, etc etc. They seem very focussed on what they want to achieve, and how to get there. I do hope that the stud is a success, as the South African scene needs this kind of transparancy, honesty and integrity badly! Even if, at present, its only on paper...

It sounds like an awesome stud. Does anyone know who owns the stud and is behind all this good thinking?

I have met the owner but for the life of me I cannot remember his name, very pleasant man. Seems like a roadtrip to Christiana (wherever the heck that is) is on the cards!

I say we leave it to whomever wins at arm-wrestling - or drinking - or whatever, for that matter, as long as I know beforehand so I can prepare, practice and then WIN!!! <evil laugh> ;D ;D
