I soak my horse's hooves everyday and then apply milking cream to the corony (sp - soz I'm not usually like this!) band. Also use Xenia's hoof and sole hardner and am quite impressed!

dont put iodine on the frog at all.......................... It will have the same effect on the frog as it does on the sole....hardening and drying... Iodine is good for when your horse has had thrush.... and for soft soles. Dont get it on your horses sking or frog as the horse may have an allergic reaction as well as it staining the coat. If it is put on the frog it will harden it and take away the cushion effect therefore causeing disease that are concusion related.... sorry for the lecture i have just done a stable managment courseand have had it drilled into my head (good thing) so it comes out like a bullet.

I use that phamaldehyde(spelling) and iodine mix works like a charm on smokes feet he has been with out shoes for a while tho. Its just he has white hooves and i use the hardner once a week to keep his hooves strong. I have no problems walking on the roads or stones (of course the odd stone does hit hard). I have had nop probs with this mixture and only joys.
