Go have a look at the SANEF website. Here is a brief distription:
Registered Grade Points required in registered grade to compete in next grade up Grade E 0 points Grade D 4 points Grade C 15 points
Points will be awarded to horses in both grades. Points obtained in the higher grade will count in the grade in which the horse is registered at the closing date of entries.
Junior and Pony Rider Competitor Qualification Notwithstanding Rule 13.1.6 1 No Junior Competitor may compete in a Grade JB class until he (the rider) has accumulated 15 points in Grade JC. 2 No Junior Competitor may compete in a Grade JA class until he (the rider) has accumulated 20 points in Grade JB. 3 No Pony Rider Competitor may compete in a Grade CB class until he (the rider) has accumulated 15 points in Grade CC 4 No Pony Rider Competitor may compete in a Grade CA class until he (the rider) has accumulated 20 points in Grade CB This rule shall not apply to any competitor who has, prior to 1 August 2005, already competed in the above mentioned grades.
13.2. RESULTS IN DIFFERENT AGE GROUPS Results in Adult competitions shall only score points for Adult grading; results in Junior competitions shall only score points for Junior grading; and results in Pony Rider competitions shall only score points for Pony Rider grading.
13.3. UP-GRADING 1 Effective date A horse shall be up-graded as from the end of the Recognised Event at which it attains the required number of grading points.
