Jubes, my mare was by the same sire as your mare's dam - if I'm not mistaken your mare's dam's sire was also Pas De Quoi (sired by Roland Gardens)? My mare was always on the lean side but she was a hell of a big horse and to try and get 'coverage' on her was a mission. I have heard that the Roland Gardens horses are rather good jumpers.

I have to second that. I had dealings with a mare sired by Roland Gardens. I really liked her, big sensible mare. But she was not easy to get and keep weight on. Other than that she moved well and was really honest about everything.

My mare is also by Pas de Quoi sired by Roland Gardens, and her dam's sire is Dancing Champ (the Northern Dancer line). She isn't very big (15.3hh), and I have no problem keeping weight on her. While she is elegant in built, she is definitely not thin: She is very frisky and a talented jumper.

FW: yes Madi is out of Belle DeQuoi who would have been Fine's half sister? I think she has a very similar temprament to your mare but luckily keeping weight on is not a problem but thats her ISH side shining through.
Buffy: Madi is anything but sensible but I suppose time will tell
PT your mares breeding is very similar to Madi's mothers. How is she temprament wise?

I learnt to ride on her, have never fallen off her. She will compensate for the rider's balance, and is super sensitive on the aids, very soft mouth, very sensitive to leg. She feels very "light". She does not buck or rear, but does spook (her bum drops when she gets a fright). She does not bolt, and always listens to her rider.

Aaahhh so in other words the opposite of mine. No she isnt that bad but she can buck/rear spook with the best of them

Jubes, I read a quote from Paul Belasik that say "no riders education is complete without riding many mares" he obviously holds them in high regard!! Mares, according to him are far more sensitive to leg aids and wont be handled roughly.

LOL Jubes. Whilst my mare is very good to people, she is very nasty to other horses, especially other mares.... but that is a general mare thing, I think.

I am not a mare person, I prefer geldings but those are some very wise words from Mr Belasik, mares put you in your place, more so than geldings.

I dont think either of my mares are nasty just that they have attitude Folly put me in my place a lot as I was growing up but I would never change her for anything, I look back and its all been worth it especially the bond I have with her. If I can half the relationship with Madi that I did with Fol I will be over the moon.

I had a mare sired by Roland Gardens, she had the best temperament, we used to play hide and seek together and I even rode her without a saddle, bridle or even halter! The only prob was that she didn't like jumping at all! But otherwise she was wonderful!
