It depends on the breeding and who you buy it from. Let's say it's well bred, then it sometimes make a difference whether you buy from the breeder itself or a middleman, or a mare owner who just had them mare covered and is now selling on the foal. You can expect to pay anything from about R50 000 to R120 000. You might get away with something a little less pricey if it's not a full warmblood (ie TB x WB), or if it is not such a proven or fashionable line.

i got my mare from a good family friend. she had just been backed and is by Lindenberg. i payed R122 000 for her. a friend of mine bought a land earl baby, also just backed, she oayed R45 000. you can pay anything but i wouldnt go higher than R150 000 for a just backed baby. i'd average on about R70-80 000

A friend of mine bought her horse from a breeder for R4000, he is by peter pan (i dont know the dam) But he is doing really well at the shows at the moment i think he has come reserve champ and champion at interbreed shows... just remember that warmbloods grow slowly so they may look really strange as babies and mature to a stunning adult.

Slinkie I agree! I mean our car didn't even cost as much as some of these horses! Also just an opinion and people may disagree with us but personally - that's what I think!

I agree with the question of why they are so over priced. In my mind, and MY opinion, you are paying a huge amount for a half breed animal anyway. I understand the whole side of certain blood lines etc. but just because its a WB some people take this as a chance to rip some poor (or not so poor) person off. Its been said before, don't diregard the cheaper horses, half breeds out there, they might just surprise you.

The prices wouldnt be so high if people werent paying them. The breeders and trainers arent going to sit with 50 horses because 1 was sold for a huge amount 3 years ago. It is supply and demand.
