Once again, South Africa’s most highly sponsored and internationally publicised Show Jumping Competition, “The Derby Day”, is on its way! Taking place on Saturday, 31st of March at Turffontein Racecourse, the day promises to be exciting combining both International Showjumping with Top Class Racing. This event is coordinated with the SA Derby Day Race as well as five other feature races. “The Classic”, a qualifying showjumping class and the “Skins”, the main show jumping event, will add some nail-biting entertainment. The five top-ranked SA riders will be taking part in the skins, with one extra “wild card”, the winner of “The Classic”!
The “Skins” is a progressive competition in so far as the degree of difficulty and the height of fences will increase round for round, until there is one outright winner. Jumps could reach the considerable height of approximately 1.7 metres! And of course, the R40 000 prize money is a great incentive. So far our “Skins” riders include: Tracy Cockbain (last year’s winner) on Patricia, Jonathan Clarke on Mossandi Diadem, Shaun Neill on Gold Rush and Tracy Davids on Alzu Bamboo.
For those who love betting, there will be plenty of it! And for those who don’t, do it for the Highveld Horse Care Unit because they’re up for some incredible proceeds! Be sure not to miss the richest and highest show jumping in Africa!
