Hi I have decided to keep my mare and put her in foal my self ;D Any ideas on what stallion i should breed her with? She is only 15.3hh so i would like a biggish stallion to help with the height! I want to breed her so her foal is a sport horse so any ideas please,in western cape area! And does a quarter horse with a tb make a sport horse?

Firstly, what are her good points? What would you say makes her a good horse? Does she have an elegant neck? Big bum? Lovely paces? Make a list of what you would say is really her best assests... Then, do the opposite for her worst points (I know - its not nice - but you have to...) Be honest - don't kid yourself. If you could change things about her to make her PERFECT, what would you change? Right, so now you have an idea of what is good and what is bad about her (all horses have their ups and downs ... ). Now, you need a stallion that will complement her good points and gloss over her bad points. If your mare has a long, swan neck, there is no point in breeding her with a long necked horse, but you would rather go for a horse that breeds shorter, stronger necked horses. Am I making sense? The best thing is to contact stud farms and ask them about their stallions. Look at a lot of stallions. I'm partion to the Irish Draughts - I think they are awesome and breed awesome horses. They also give a horse a bit of size and girth and they make lovely sport horses.

thanks sal! Her worst point s her size as I am tall, she is very dainty.I will think about all the good and bad points...
I wanted to use clover but he is too small so it wouldnt help much...
What do you think of a quarter horse??do they make sport horses if you reed them with a tb??

depends on what kind of sport Candy. I wouldn't recommend a quarter horse for dressage. They have huge hindquarters but they can be a bit croup-high and downhill in built.
they're also quite small. Most are in the 15hh range.

Candy - have a look at the SAWHS site and look at all the registered Stallions. That will give you an idea of what they are offering in registered WB's. I am also partial to that ISH and maybe have a look at the Shoshone Sport Horse Stud and see what stallions they offer.

The height comes from the mare...

Tyson has Ferro on his dad's side and his dam sire is Rohdiamant ... a VERY impressive dressage stallion out of Rubenstein. Rubenstein was for many years the top dressage sire internationally and Rohdiamant was the first one to usurp him. Ferro doesn't need any introduction.
