I'm not sure I've told this story on this site, but about 8 months ago I decided I was going to quit riding (for some reason I was getting bored with it), so I put Nik up for sale. After about a few months, he still hadn't sold (because of his age, 21), so I decided I'd give him to the trainer at a fancy new hunter/jumper barn up the street from us. She was willing to take him in and told me I could visit him whenever I wanted. It was a stunning facility, so I figured this would be an excellent home for him. Well, the first time I went to visit him, he still looked healthy, but I was upset when I saw that he had no water in his stall! I notified her and she was very sorry. Then I wento to visit him about 2 months later and I broke down crying because he looked aweful. He had mats all over his body, especially in the girth area, terrible thrush, pony shoes!, and he had lost a ton of weight! I was appaled and asked the trainer why this was happening to him and she snapped at me and told me she was sick of me complaining about how she was taking care of him. She told me I either needed to sign the sale bill right then and there or take him back. So of course I took him back, and since I had already sold my trailer, I had to hand walk him back to our barn, about 3 miles. Sorry for the long story, but I just thought I'd share. I found I picture of him the day after I took him back, and then I took a picture of him yesterday. It's been about 5 months since I've gotten him back. But anyway, just thought I'd show... This is after I got him back: This is yesterday: Just needed to share that!

OH my word! Good for you! Sad story with a happy ending!
I would go and rub the photo in that ladies face and tell her THAT is how a horse should look if you look after them!

Yeah I was sobbing when I saw him. I just don't see how that kind of care is considered good in her standards! He definitely seems to be loving his life now though. Since we aren't going to compete anymore, he's just been living the laid-back lifestyle of getting groomed and grazing every day instead of staying in a stall all day like he did at the other place. He also has a new friend; the baby at our barn (below):

What a sad story. Im glad you got him back before it got any worse. People like that should not OWN any horse or animal for that matter. Well done for giving so much love and attention he needed to get better. He really looks wonderful. You would never say its the same horse. Keep up the good work taking care of him with soooooo much LOVE!!

Oh my word that is really terrible thank goodness you took him back,it is really sad to see how some people treat horses, that is why i am so scared when i sell a horse,it is so hard to tell if it is a good home sometimes. Hope he likes his new little friend he is cute!
